Southern Boone Chamber Celebrates Growth, Community, and Leadership at Annual Awards Meeting

The Southern Boone County Chamber of Commerce brought together local business leaders, community members, and partners on Wednesday, March 11 for its Annual Member Meeting & Awards, held at the Hartsburg Grand. The evening served as both a celebration of the past year’s accomplishments and a forward-looking conversation about the continued growth and opportunity within Southern Boone.

Chamber President Izzy Smith and Vice President Jacob Garrett opened the evening by reflecting on the strength and uniqueness of the Southern Boone community. They emphasized that the Chamber’s mission—to promote a business-friendly culture that connects, engages, and inspires—comes down to one central idea: relationships.

From sponsoring school events to supporting nonprofits and volunteering across the community, local businesses play a critical role in sustaining the heartbeat of Southern Boone. Smith encouraged attendees to continue building those connections, noting that “when businesses know one another and support one another, opportunities follow.”

Shop Southern Boone: Unity In Business Strengthens The Community

A highlight of the evening was the official launch of the Chamber’s new Shop Southern Boone initiative.

More than just a slogan, the campaign is designed to encourage residents to intentionally support local businesses. By choosing to spend locally, community members directly contribute to job creation, infrastructure, schools, and long-term economic stability.

The campaign will roll out in the coming months through signage, promotions, and partnerships, aiming to build pride in the local business network and reinforce the importance of keeping dollars within the community.

A Year of Progress and Momentum

During the annual business meeting, the Chamber reflected on a productive and impactful year:

  • Membership grew to more than 75 businesses

  • Three $1,000 scholarships were awarded to local high school seniors

  • New businesses were welcomed while existing businesses were celebrated

  • The Special Events Committee hosted a successful community fundraiser, “The Honky Tonk”

  • A marketing specialist was onboarded to enhance member value and communication

  • The Chamber continued refining its structure and strategy with guidance from business consultant Tom Trabue

These efforts reflect a continued commitment to strengthening the organization and better serving its members.

His remarks reinforced the importance of collaboration between local businesses, regional partners, and community leaders to capitalize on that momentum.

Recognizing Outstanding Leadership

2025 Business of the Year was awarded to Jessica Ward for her business, In Any Event, in recognition of her leadership, entrepreneurship, and the role her business plays in bringing people together. Through her work, Ward has built experiences that support local events, strengthen community connections, and contribute to the vibrancy of Southern Boone. Her commitment to quality, creativity, and community involvement has made In Any Event a standout within the local business landscape.

2025 Business Member of the Year was presented to Gunny Kline of the American Legion, honoring his continued dedication to service both within the organization and throughout the broader community. These awards recognize success, yes, but they also reflect the leadership and commitment that keep Southern Boone moving forward, grounded in service, strong relationships, and a genuine dedication to this community and its people.
